Peak months: Apr, May.
FWC Where to Saltwater Fish: cobia winter to spring (offshore list) in all four counties. Cobia prefer water of 68 F and up (waterTempF); local water averages that warm from about late April (NCEI), so spring is the realistic window. Jacksonville Beach Pier anglers catch them on the king rigs (Lacoss). (Our inference)

End of the Jacksonville Beach Pier on live bait (Lacoss); FWC: around buoys, pilings and wrecks in inlets and nearshore water.
Cruising near the surface, often around rays or structure.
What to look for
A brown shark-like shape cruising near the surface.
What to throw
Bait
Live eel, Live menhaden, Crab. Heavy fish-finder or free-line, circle hook required at 4/0 and up.
Leader
50 to 80 lb.
Common mistakes
- Landing an unsubdued cobia; they thrash violently
