Pack My Bag

Pack My Bag: cover the bite, not the tackle box

Pack My Bag picks up to six lure types for your trip, chosen so a small bag covers the likely fish instead of six lures for one fish. You get weight, size, color for the water, how to retrieve each lure, when to use it, and where to cast.

Six surf lures on wet sand: a metal jig, a jig plug, a bucktail with a paddle tail, a casting spoon, a popper and a swimming plug, with pliers and leader

Why six lures

You fish with one rod and carry a small bag, so the goal is coverage. Six lures are the upper limit because more than that stops being useful on foot. If fewer than six make sense for the trip, Pack My Bag says so instead of padding the list.

How coverage works

Pack My Bag looks at the fish FISH ranks for your window and chooses lure types so different species get covered. The aim is versatility across the bite, not depth in one direction.

Color and weight by conditions

Each lure comes with a color choice for clear or stained water and a weight that fits the surf. Retrieval notes, timing and casting spot come with every pick.

Leader and the small essentials

The bag also suggests the leader for toothy fish such as bluefish and mackerel. The small essentials stay minimal: pliers, a long-reach hook remover, a line cutter, and spare leader. No carts, coolers, chairs or sand spikes.

Bait kit when you fish bait

If you choose bait instead of lures, Pack My Bag switches to the rigs and baits for the likely fish. The list covers the fish-finder rig, double-drop bottom rig, and Carolina rig.
